    About Supabase outages

Written by the HostTracker monitoring team · updated from live probe data.

Supabase is a backend-as-a-service platform built on Postgres, and every project it hosts gets its own dedicated subdomain - yourproject.supabase.co - rather than sharing one address with every other customer. That distinction is the first thing worth understanding before assuming an outage: supabase.com being reachable, and this page showing it up, says the platform's marketing site, dashboard and shared control-plane infrastructure are healthy, but it does not confirm that your specific project's database, API and auth endpoints on its own subdomain are responding, since those run per-project rather than as one shared service. A project that has quietly gone unreachable while supabase.com loads fine is a real, common pattern, not a contradiction.

    Common causes of Supabase downtime

Not sure whether it's Supabase or your own connection? Read the full breakdown in our website down checker guide for a general walkthrough of diagnosing any outage, from DNS failures to expired certificates.

Regional incidents affecting the specific region a project is deployed in, without touching projects hosted elsewhere

A project auto-paused for inactivity on the free tier, which stops responding to API and database requests until manually resumed

Connection pool exhaustion on the Postgres database, where too many simultaneous connections block new requests while the platform itself is otherwise healthy

Auth service incidents that block sign-in and token issuance for applications while the database and storage layers keep working

The dashboard and the underlying API/database running on separate infrastructure, so the management console can be degraded while a project's live API keeps serving requests, or the reverse

Questions people ask during an outage

The live probe run on this page tests supabase.com from a broad sample of HostTracker's 300+-location monitoring network - many independent networks at the same moment, rather than just your own connection. If every location fails to reach it, the outage is real and affects everyone; if only a few locations fail while most load normally, the problem is local to those regions or networks rather than Supabase being fully down. A single refresh from your own browser can never make that distinction, because it only ever tests from one vantage point on one network.

Yes. HostTracker lets you add any URL - including third-party services you depend on, not just your own website - as a monitored target, and notifies you automatically the moment it becomes unreachable. Before sending an alert, HostTracker re-verifies a failure from multiple locations in its 300+-location network, so you're notified about real, confirmed outages rather than a single location's momentary blip. The free plan checks two monitors every 30 minutes indefinitely at no cost; paid plans check as often as once a minute, with alerts available through SMS, email, voice call, and several messenger apps.

No - as of the most recent check, supabase.com is responding normally to HostTracker's monitoring network, and has been up for 39d 23h. Over the last 24 hours it recorded 100.00% uptime across 0 incidents. If it is failing for you specifically, the cause is local - your network, DNS cache, or a regional route - and the live probe results above will show which locations, if any, are affected.

This is the single most important thing to understand about Supabase reliability: the main website and each individual project run on different infrastructure. supabase.com being reachable confirms the platform's shared front end and control plane are healthy, but your project lives on its own yourproject.supabase.co subdomain with its own database and API, which can fail independently. Testing your project's own subdomain directly, rather than judging by the main site, is the only way to know whether your specific project is actually up.

Often not - free-tier projects that see no activity for an extended period are automatically paused rather than kept running indefinitely, and a paused project simply stops answering API and database requests until it's manually resumed from the dashboard. This looks identical to an outage from the outside - timeouts or connection refusals - but it's a billing-tier behaviour rather than a platform incident. Checking the project's status in the dashboard settles it before assuming anything is broken.

Connection pool exhaustion is a common, project-specific cause that has nothing to do with Supabase's platform health. Each project's database accepts a limited number of simultaneous connections, and an application that opens more than it releases - a leak, or simply high traffic - can exhaust that pool and start refusing new connections while the platform and every other project remain completely unaffected. Reviewing connection usage in the dashboard is the right next step rather than treating it as a wider outage.

Yes, because auth and the database/storage layers are separate services that can fail independently. An incident in the auth service can block sign-in and token issuance while your project's database keeps answering queries fine for already-authenticated sessions, and the reverse is just as possible - working auth with a struggling database. Narrowing down which specific service is failing, rather than assuming the whole project is down, usually points straight at the cause.
